A Window into the life behind the name
A gravestone records a name and dates—but a life is so much more. Legacy Portals allow families to preserve photographs, obituaries, stories, videos, audio recordings, and family memories on a dedicated webpage linked to a custom-engraved QR code plaque applied to their gravestone.
A simple scan with a smartphone brings a loved one's story to life.
How it works
-
Provide your digital photographs, documents, videos, and audio files about your loved one to the Appanoose County Historical Society.
-
We create a personalized memorial webpage with all of the materials provided
-
We produce a durable engraved QR code plaque which is provided to the customer.
-
The plaque comes with outdoor adhesive, allowing the client to attach it to a monument, marker, or any other memorial location of their choice.* The customer can also choose a small stand to place the memorial plaque near an urn.
-
Visitors can easily scan the QR code with their smartphones to access the digital materials.
Digital files are preferred. Scanning and digitization services are available for an additional fee.
*For best results, install only on clean, solid, non-crumbling stone surfaces. The mounting tape is not intended for deteriorated, flaking, or unstable monuments.

Why choose a Legacy Portal?
A traditional gravestone tells only a small part of a person's story—a name, a birth date, and a death date.
But the memories, accomplishments, personality, photographs, and family history that truly defined their life are often lost with time.
A Legacy Portal memorial allows future generations to discover the person behind the stone. Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, researchers, and visitors can view photographs, hear stories, watch videos, and learn about a loved one's life with a simple scan of a QR code.
It transforms a gravesite from a place of remembrance into a lasting legacy.
